What is CBD?
CBD, or cannabidiol, is a chemical compound from the flowers of the hemp plant. While the hemp plant is cultivated in similar ways to medical marijuana, unlike its cousin tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), CBD is not psychoactive.

How does CBD Work?
Working with a cannabis informed physician is the best place to start when planning to treat a symptom. The science behind CBD is based on a system in the body called the Endocannabinoid System (ECS). Different cannabinoids produce a number of effects in a number of ways but principally through interacting with Cannabis Receptors (CB). Research has shown that CBD is involved in modulating the CB-2 receptor, found in the immune system, pertaining to the sensation
of pain and inflammation.
After researching the safety and effectiveness
of CBD oil for treating epilepsy, the FDA approved the use of CBD (Epidiolex®) in 2018 as a therapy for two rare conditions characterized by epileptic seizures. This led to a groundswell of interest in integrating CBD into potential treatments. Many questions remain surrounding the best role of cannabinoids like CBD in broader therapeutic care, however, the evidence is clear that it begins with the Endocannabinoid System.
